Top 10 tips for your Cator Woolford Gardens Engagement/Wedding

  1. The bottom of the stairs and the top of the stairs look very different, because the clearing of the leaves lets more light in. You can take advantage of the different lighting situations to create a diverse range of interesting photos.

2. Don’t be afraid to request unconventional photos at the top. The railing is beautiful and so picturesque.

3. The last session you can schedule is 15 minutes before closing time (6pm as of October 2020). However, if you schedule your session earlier, you can stay as long as you want until closing.

4. If not knowing exactly where to park gives you anxiety like me, know that you can park outside the entrance along S. Ponce de Leon Ave (Google coordinates: https://goo.gl/maps/yf7pMxTewCwSuyCu6 )

5. Don’t be afraid to shoot outside the gardens- there are lovely trails minutes away, including Deepdene Park, Dell Park, and even Candler Park.

6. There’s bamboo and elephant ear plants on the premises- they make for wonderful backdrops.

7. The areas are public grounds until sunset, so be aware of who is in your shot. Discuss with your photographer if they’re comfortable with editing out people in the background- it helps everyone get on the same page and ensures you have beautiful photos

8. You may have to wait your turn at the steps. If there are others shooting on site that day, it’s worth having a quick chat to coordinate

9. Decide your top locations within the gardens, and don’t shoot them first. I find it my couples usually take 10-15 minutes to get comfortable in front of the camera- so if you want to be the most natural and at ease by the staircase, ‘warm up’ by walking along the garden grounds first.

10. Scope out the location on your own time if possible! It gives you a chance to spend some time at a lovely public park, while getting the lay of the land.
